Who Owns the Stars?
Who owns the stars? Or, the famous political question: who owns what?
As many people active politically know, current policy seems to be trapped in an arm wrestling match between governmnet regulation (ie having beaurocracies decide the price of goods and services) or having a market do this. Those who favor government argue that elected officials are accountable to the people whose policies they affect whilst markets are closer to the decisions that are being make, consequently more effective and beneficial publically since those that accrue money can then make capital investments.
But, if we were to advance an anti light pollution campaign, who pays for the stars? In a sense this is a question we need to ask ourselfves, as a society.
First off, I would have to point out that not answering this question, ie ignorigin it, is also giving an answer.
Second, we could either have the government use tax money to deploy low light polluting emitting technolgy (ie good lightbulds) or we could have the private sector give it a shot. But, what would they do?
How could a corporation exclude people (ie have those who cannot pay) not see the night sky?
Respect your elders
Wisdom is hindsight, the ability to surmize and crystallize an experience in afterthought. Once one has lived through it and knows it. Hind sight is 20/20.
Therefore, wisdom is also learning from this hindsight. That is the treasure wearing down the weary body of society’s elders. They know that they know so little.
Respect your elders. They have a lto to teach. understand their worldview, merge it with yours. Expand your philosophical horizons. Grow in philosophical power. Wisdom enlightenes your world, as a sun that is rising.
Some people learn from their own mistakes, but even less learn from the mistakes of others. Luistening to our Elders means learning from the experiences of others.
But, of course, question what they say. After all, you want to become wiser than them.
